MISSED ON MISSONI

I wanted to see if all the hype was true.  It was.

Missoni's collection for Target was cleaned out within hours.  Piranhas couldn't have done a better job.  The unmistakable striped knitwear flew off the shelves and crashed Target's website after unveiling on September 13th.  Not even a dish or blanket was left.  I heard stories of shoppers stealing from other shoppers' (momentarily) unattended carts.  Would you believe?!

I didn't have time to check it out on the 13th so I went on the 14th.  Too late -- the racks were bare.  Unless you were a baby or had size 11 feet.

What you do see here was one of 3 remaining Children's cardigans.  I snapped one up, with a matching children's vest (hooray, there was one Children's Large left!)  Does anyone else like the shrunken proportions achieved from the children's department, including the boy's section?

Looking at these variegated knits brought me back to my University days in the UK.  Except for the Italians, my closest friend there and I were the only ones on campus sporting bright, multi-colored outfits from hat to toe.  (My friend was born Sri Lankan, schooled in Geneva and England and now based in Vancouver; in other words, another global nomad.)  I had a long, striped cardigan I referred to as "Joseph's Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat."  You see, it wasn't fashionable back then.  It was either black, grungy outfits or muted sophistication.

So I conclude that my style really hasn't changed since I was a youth and actually began picking out my own clothes.  I am not counting the days when my sisters and I wore matching dresses to complement my Mom's grown-up version.  We had our von Trapp Family moments.

Has your style evolved?  Do you like Missoni?

  1. great post! I wanted some target missoni so bad. but I live in Los Angeles and the closet Target to me is the Hollywood one. As much as I love it I didn't want to brave the maddness for some clothes!

  2. It was certainly crazy! I had hopes of getting a friend of mine to pick up something for me when he goes stateside next week, but no! And Target does not ship to Canada. What irks me is the 32000 plus items on ebay.

  16. Glad that you managed to get such a lovely cardigan! Living in Europe, we didn't have the opportunity to ehm...'fight' for this collaboration, but I have to say that I'm always surprise to hear stories of websites crushing because these brands should be prepared for the event...Regarding my style, I've always been interested in fashion (I'm Italian after all) but of course it has evolved in the sense that I had the chance to travel a lot and discover new labels, designers and see the style of different people.

  19. Such a great post! I love Missoni-but I'm a sucker for bright-colored knits! I almost got the children's cardigan pictured here-but I didn't, unfortunately! I do however love the fact that I am small enough to rock a child's large. Great for me and my bank account!

  20. I do so like Missoni. My mum used to wear this label and when I look at old photos I find myself lusting over her old garments. So I suppose I like Missoni for sentimental reasons x

  23. My style has gone through MAJOR changes throughout my life. I don't think it'll ever stop...

  24. Glad to see you snatched up at least something from the collection!

I do like Missoni (and have quite a few pieces), but since I started designing my own clothes I have felt less the need to wear more heavily branded designers such as Missoni.

  25. There was so much hype around this line! I am bummed that I didn't even get to check it out :(. The sweater you got is gorgeous though! Hopefully they will do some sort of restock... Fingers crossed!

I just became your newest follower. I'd love for you to check out my blog & follow back if you'd like! :)

Also, we are doing a giveaway for a Tiffany & Co. necklace!

  26. I engage in a lot of buying of children's clothes too. I absolutely stretched the limit once when I bought a purple Trelise Cooper coat that was intended for a, I kid you not, 6 year old. It was supposed to be a full length coat but on me it was not quite mid length with half sleeves (and lining with cartoon characters on it!). Needless to say, I bought it anyway. Fashion has no age barriers after all ;)

    Lots of love from Sydney,

  27. I'd like to think my style has evolved since my youth. I shopped the Missoni line too but online, not in stores. Sorry you didn't get any pieces for yourself. xo style, she wrote

  28. I love what you found! I love Missoni but the craziness over it at target was out of control. I really liked the housewares but here in NY you can find (if you dig) beautiful missoni pieces at places like century 21, marshall's and filene's for crazy discounted prices. I can't believe people were stealing from other people's carts! or maybe I can. that's nuts!

  29. Looks wonderful. Dont think I could get into the clothes from the kids section. So you are lucky. I was on of the ones in black...I would say there is more colour in my wardrobe now. But I feel very comfy and safe in black. Xxxx

  30. lovely. I'd love to see you wearing those beautiful missoni garnments. As for me I think my style evolved much I wasn't very much interested in fashion and design when I was younger. so I used to dress very badly :)
