I'm finally back after a week of no internet nor information on the world. The wi-fi connection at the Inn was so poor. However, the wealth of natural beauty all around more than compensated for it.
The California Coast has got to be one of the most ruggedly sublime landscapes I have ever seen. I took several memory cards' worth of photos and not one did the misty coast justice. I hope some of you have the opportunity to see it for real some time.

I should have been musing on Native American legends. Instead, the rocky coasts and harbor seals in the fog made me dwell on the Selkies of Irish, Scottish and Welsh lore. I wonder if Selkies make it this far out?
There are more sophisticated diversions to share about Carmel. For now, I leave you with scenic panoramas from our road trip. We literally stopped every few minutes to admire the coast line.

These are gorgeous photographs - particularly the ones of the misty coastline of Big Sur. How I long for Ventana... I think your compositions are quite lovely - but you are right, nothing can compare to seeing it for yourself! Such beauty to take in at every twist and turn of the PCH!

What lovely shots, so varied too. I love that part of the coast and realise it is many years since I've seen it. Did you get off and walk on some of the beaches? Some of it looks like scenery from a fairy tale. Which inn is this? I stayed at a place which had little cabins with fireplaces, overlooking the ocean, idyllic. I can't remember the name.....
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting these, they brought back such nice memories!

ReplyDelete@Jenny Woolf - Thanks, yes, we did spend time frolicking in the rocks and beaches too! We stayed in Carmel-by-the-Sea which has quaint Inns in every street corner. We try to stay in a different Inn every time we visit. Each time, we get a flower laden place with a fireplace and kitchenette but join the lovely breakfast laid out for guests every morning.
ReplyDelete@Fashionistable - You found my Selkie!
