"I shall not be relegated to the background from this day forth," she declared. "I may have been born as camouflage garb, but, as sure as I'm Suede, I shall rise above my circumstances."
And rise she did, seeking out a rebellious perch. There, on higher ground, she prevailed upon those who sought to contain her in monochromatic surroundings.
The Suede Booties harumphed, having won the upper hand (or foot, as this case may be). There she stayed, that foggy day, secure in her small but meaningful triumph.
Do you wake up defiant some days?

This Foolish Aesthete is just out on a foolish lark. Blame it on Charles Dickens. I hadn't picked up Dickens since my tween-and-teen days and decided to re-read "Great Expectations." Little did I remember how cleverly funny Dickens was in this novel!
These photos have a magical quality to them that I do like oh-so-muchly!

pretty boots!
ReplyDeleteI love how you have them perching up in the branches as though about to take flight or break into song.
ReplyDeleteI'm reading Bleak House at the moment. Wonderful - but brick-heavy to carry, so no use taking along on my daily trains for journey reading.
LOVE Sam Edelman! I was trying on his shoes this afternoon. Very beautiful photography, what camera did you use?

I love this! A little fairy tale story: how charming, J!
ReplyDeleteBB (Before Blogging), I used to take my dad's old Pentax - colour slide film - and a tripod, when I lived in NYC and would go on adventures - sometimes with my future (current) husband, or with whoever I was seeing, or alone, and I'd take these kind of self portraits and scan them in and do collages with them - very Maxfield Parrish, the light. I was working with an art collector, a very wonderful one (you might even know him) - a mentor - to show as a fine artist. And always, I'd bring my red shoes - classic vintage red patent court heels - and I'd shoot them in various settings, as you have done here, and done so beautifully.
I do love the boots, too, btw. I've been hearing Fleetwood Mac in my head - Gypsy - and can see them with a long floaty flowery 70s dress.
One Foggy Morn.
Oh! I totally forgot why I came here: to thank you for your comment (I don't reciprocate nearly enough to people - shame on me - it's because I write such freaking long comments, they're epic emails!) and also to say how funny about your monkey mind, and being born in the year of the monkey. I haven't been to yoga class for far too long, and the class I'm committed to going to tomorrow, the teacher is great, but very chatty. It's like karma. I just want to do yoga and he chats chats chats while torturing us to hold these really long poses, and the whole time he's talking about 'quieting that monkey mind, that monkey mind.' Meanwhile, he's got the monkeyest mind of them all. Even more than me! ; )
Must run - typing this very fast - will email soon. I dream of house swapping!! But must get our flat in shape first. It's not up to the swap. Yet.
Big hug, J - and happy Monday! xoxoxo
Ha, I fear I wake up defiant most days. A pretty pair of boots like this would certainly brighten up my (foggy) day - even if it's too wet to wear them.
ReplyDeleteLove the pictures ... and the boots too, of course!
ReplyDelete;) I love defiance !
